PSG may be one of the biggest clubs in the world right now, but they are struggling to keep hold of defender Lucas Digne.
Manager Laurent Blanc has confirmed that the player now intends to leave the club. Amongst other interested parties are Liverpool, who have already dealt with PSG in the past. The club have been on a spending spree in recent weeks. After completing the deal to bring in Christian Benteke for £ 32.5 million, it looks like Liverpool have shifted their focus on strengthening the defence. However, they will have to fight off competition from the likes of Roma and Atletico Madrid.
Digne has been one of the highly rated central defenders around and the French international is expected to have a bright future. At just 22 years of age, he is just growing into a top-class defender. PSG may not be surprised by the transfer request given by the player, as he featured little last season. The dominating presence of Thiago Silva and David Luiz meant that he could not make more than 15 appearances in all competitions. If Digne is to improve as a player, he needs to be playing regularly. He expected to cost about £ 20 million in transfer fees.
“First, it is he who very clearly asked to leave. For now, he is with us, he is very professional, he trains very well and has prepared excellently. He has shown the results in friendlies. This is firstly a very good thing for him and possibly for us, should he stay with us this season,” said Blanc. The French outfit are looking to bring in a top-class player in this transfer window. They have set their sights on Manchester United winger Angel di Maria, who will cost around £ 45 million and is expected to sign next week.
